Butterfly Center, Dallas, Texas

Some friends (Naomi and Larry, thanks!) suggested we visit the Butterfly Discovery Center in Dallas.  Never heard of it before, so we thought it would be a good idea.  Especially since we are currently in a heat wave in Dallas, It was really hot outside, and the butterfly exhibit was inside, so this seemed like a good idea.

If you ever visit a butterfly exhibit that is inside, remember that it is usually a tropical environment.  It was hot and humid inside, so much so, it felt good to go outside in the high 90’s heat!

If you want to take butterfly pictures, have a good camera and lens, and fast reflexes.  These little buggers move fast and unpredictable!  However, I managed to get a few that were resting a bit.  It really was an interesting exhibit, both inside and out.  The gardens outside by themselves is worth a visit, and it’s cheap.  We recommend a visit here.

“Lordy Lordy, Stacy’s 40!”

Stacy hit the 40th birthday mark, and Dallas (and friends) threw a most excellent birthday crawfish boil.  We all had a great time, well, maybe the crawfish didn’t :)…..

We are so glad to be able to stop by and join in on the celebration.  The company was great, the food was excellent (and the corn a bit spicy!) and more than we could eat.  Thanks Dallas for doing this for Stacy.  Ans Stacy have an excellent new year!

Stacy and Dallas’ wedding

June 26, 2016 3 comments

Our daughter Stacy has been in a relationship with her girlfriend and partner Dallas Ruggieri for almost a decade.  They made the decision to confirm their love for each other with a wedding ceremony.  And, in keeping with their interests, the theme was to be “Day of the Dead”.  Or, as some would say it, a Zombie wedding.

So, we all dressed up accordingly and appeared during one of Dallas’ (the city) hottest days.  Fortunately air  conditioning had been invented and the whole event went off without a hitch (except theirs, of course – pun intended).  Family and friends showed up and demonstrated how popular Stacy and Dallas are – the outfits were spectacular!

With a lot of help from their friends Stacy and Dallas did a superb decoration setup in and around their house.  The whole event was spectacular, and moving.

May I present Stacy and Dallas Riley.  (Click on the small image for a larger view.  It’s worth it!)

Dallas at night

Romola and I took a walk in Klyde Warren Park in downtown Dallas. This park is built right over top of a busy Dallas freeway, and creates some space that would otherwise be just a sea of cars. Since you are right downtown, you get a good view of some of the buildings. And since Christmas is close, plenty of lights.

Chinese Lantern Festival

Some pictures taken at our family visit to the Chinese Lantern Festival near downtown Dallas.  It is spectacular; it takes over three months to make the exhibits.  Just imagine all the steel wire and colored fabric used!

A visit to downtown Dallas

November 20, 2012 Leave a comment

The weather was good, and we’ve never taken the train to Dallas, so this was a good time to try it out.  Not quite as smooth a ride as the European trains, but plenty good enough.  We made it downtown, walked some of the major buildings, and took some pictures.

The purpose of these pictures is just to play with light, colors and angles.  So these are just fun pictures, not a travelogue.
