Le Havre, France

Le Havre is a major port city located in the Normandy region of France.  It is located on the English Channel, near the landing beaches of June, 1944.  It was heavily damaged in WW2 and reconstructed of reinforced concrete.  Hence its nickname “Concrete City”.  This was our second European port city.

Many of our fellow cruisers took tours to Paris or the Normandy beaches.  But the almost 3 hour bus ride each way didn’t appeal to us so we just walked the city and visited the many shops and landmarks.  Of course, we had to stop at a Patiserrie and sample some of the marvelous pastries the French are famous for.
